I was listening to some music with my wife, which, in turn, lead to looking up lyrics for some of the songs, and as it turns out finding English translations for old Norwegian black metal songs can be quite challenging.
The ones you do find, however, are made by putting the Norwegian lyrics (with typos and the æ
ø
å
letters replaced with ae
o
and a
into google translate)
This can cause some spectacularly bad translations as skal
means shall/will, but skål
means cheers, dø
means “to die” and do
means toilet, etc..
So without further adø, here are the only 3 Norwegian songs by Old Man’s Child, translated into somewhat intelligible English:

Ferden Mot Fienden’s Land (Slaves Of The World)
Title: The journey towards the enemies lands
Norwegian | English |
---|---|
The time has come Now the throne shall be ours Filled with our hatred They will lick their wounds In chaos and sorrows Everyone lies doomed Now your time is past All that was From ancient times Will show us the way Towards the darkness, we wander Where the fog leads We go against the currents of sorrow We fight for power and everything that will be Of honour and death we all dream The earth is ours, the blood will flow The journey towards the enemy's land keeps pace with death Towards darkness, we wander where the fog leads When everything is passed And emptiness’ victorious The strong will stand With your blood on their hand |
Manet Sorgfull Igjennom Skogen (In The Shades Of Life)
Title: Evoked sorrowfull through the forest
Norwegian | English |
---|---|
Tears fall like heavy autumn rain, in a cold December landscape.
Tears for my pride and my dignity. On my journey into loneliness, into the darkness of the forest. To the origin of my sorrows I go, in shame. I am filling with the powers of Satan, and a dreary, embittered peace. In a call from his land, I will sink into the water of death, and venture with the currents towards the land of death.
She licks my cheeks, while death entices I can glimpse his kingdom.
Sad eyes and docile voices, follow my attraction to the cold darkness of the grave.
Tears fall like heavy autumn rain, in a cold December landscape.
Tears for my pride and my dignity. So in the darkness we shall rise again for war against the light, we will ravage, chasing our prey. Like a storm we shall tear his kingdom to pieces, under the blade of darkness we shall die. In a brave war, never battling again, come drink my tears. And wander towards your cave. In your cave we will reign.
On my journey into loneliness, into the darkness of the forest.
To the origin of my sorrows I go, with hatred. She moistened my lips, while death entices I have reached your kingdom. Sad eyes and docile voices, follow my pull towards the cold darkness of the gave. |
Og Jeg Iakttok Dødsrikets Inntog (In The Shades Of Life)
Title: And I watched the arrival of the Realm of the Dead
Norwegian | English |
---|---|
Kun opplyst av kveldsstjernen. Ventende uten kjærlighet, uten varme død skal komme. Så spill ut all mjød og legg fjellene øde. Måtte deres ruiner bli meg en verdig grav. |
Only illuminated by the evening star. Waiting without love, without heat, death will come. So pour out all the mead and lay the mountains desolate. May their ruins be a worthy grave to me. |
